About Me

Hi, I’m Vivek!
Welcome to My Pocket Calculator — a growing collection of smart, useful tools designed to make everyday decisions easier, faster, and a little more fun.

By day, I’m a Principal Engineer with over 15 years of experience building software products — from machine learning-powered search systems and semantic image search to enterprise-grade data pipelines and large-scale backend services. I’ve worked at companies like eBay, Autodesk, and RBC, and I currently lead engineering at Zemely, where I’ve developed RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) applications and filed patents for novel scoring algorithms.

But this site? This is my personal space to combine tech with curiosity.

Why Calculators?

I believe in solving real problems with simple, elegant tools. I’ve always loved building things that are both useful and delightful. Whether it’s helping someone estimate how much mulch they need, convert units for a project, or understand blood sugar impact after a workout — a well-crafted calculator can offer instant clarity.

My Pocket Calculator is my playground for ideas. It started with a few niche tools and is now evolving into a larger suite of calculators across construction, education, trades, and more. These tools are meant to be usable and accurate — no fluff, just function.

A Little More About Me

  • I live in Toronto, Canada.
  • I have a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida and a B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur.
  • I’ve built and led multiple high-impact engineering teams, shipped complex applications, and optimized systems for performance and scale.
  • I enjoy exploring the intersection of AI, user experience, and product-led growth.
  • When I’m not coding or building, I’m learning about new frameworks, hiking with my family, or planning the next calculator idea.
